I'm posting these Old-Fashioned Bleeding Hearts in honor of my grandmother, who passed away last night. In our last conversation about plants, she mentioned how much she liked these flowers. She was an inspiration to me as a naturalist and gardener.

You have my sympathy, Nelumbo, on this loss. How wonderful that she not only inspired you, but that she was able to see you grow up to be a gardener.
My dad liked the old-fashioned bleeding hearts, too. A few years before he died I showed him that Henry Mitchell trick where you turn the stem over and the upside down flower transforms into a tiny lady in a bathtub. Dad got such a kick out of it that I can't look at Bleeding Heart without thinking of him.
I guess this plant will be always be a special link between you and your grandmother.

Nelumbo,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Bleeding hearts probably sum up how you're feeling today.
It's wonderful that you had a grandparent who inspired you to become the gardener you are.

Dear Nelumbo,
Blessings to you and your family.
As you honour your Grandmother's life may you find comfort.
She gave you a splendid gift.
She passes her stewardship on to you.
She choose wisely.

Sorry about your grandmother. These are wonderful flowers and I see why she liked them.
Fie on the spammers for getting on your site at such a time.
So sorry about your loss. What a beautiful plant for a tribute to your grandmother.
I'm so sorry about your grandmother. My grandmother, my Father's mother - was an obsessive gardener too, and I remember feeling that connection with her. It's nice though - those connections, and will keep the person with you (in your own garden).
The photos absolutely take my breath away. I'm sure the taste will do even more!
I like these flowers.....
thanks for sharing.....
